Fabian A. Michelangeli

Fabián A. Michelangeli studied Biology at the Universidad Central de Venezuela in Caracas (1993) and obtained a Ph.D. in Botany at Cornell University (2000). He has been at The New York Botanical Garden since 2004 where he is currently Associate Curator.


His research focuses on the evolution and systematics of Neotropical plants and animal-plant interactions. He has focused most of his research in the large tropical plant family Melastomataceae using it as a model system to understand patterns of morphological evolution and biogeography in the Neotropics. He has done field work throughout Latin America.
