Manoel Cardoso has a BSc. in Physics and an MSc. in Meteorology from the University of São Paulo in Brazil, and a Ph.D. in Earth and Environmental Sciences from the University of New Hampshire. He currently works for the Center for Earth System Science at the Brazilian Institute for Space Research (INPE/CCST), and is primarily interested in modeling the dynamics and effects of fires in terrestrial ecosystems, using information from ground and remote-sensing studies. Most of his current activities are related to the development of global land-surface models for climate studies with emphasis in South America and Brazil.
